Well here we are agian at the Dance World Festivals, and Shuffles have been brilliant!
Nerves have been running high this year, but it hasn't stopped the medals coming in, the confidence of all the students has been incredible this year, seems that everyone is now finding their feet (pardon the pun!)
Day 1
Paige B started the day for Shuffles in the Medal Modern section, Paige set the standard by gaining a well deserved 2nd place. Amy was up next with her Own Arrangement, a fantastic acro dance, Amy was up against some stiff competition and gained 4th place with 80 marks (a medal winning score another time). Next to take the stage was Morgan. Morgan won a silver medal for a brilliant characterisation.
Next came the turn of the troupes, seniors first, a huge section this time, but Shuffles walked away with their heads held high with 4th, 5th and 6th place.
Next the Inter troupes, The crazy chick girls danced their hearts out and earned themselves a bronze medal, the Monday class was only 1 point behind in 4th place.
Next up was Kerryann, showing an amazing display of tricks and tumbles in her acro dance and gaining another bronze medal for Shuffles.
Last was the turn of our singers, Shannon and Morgan, another tough category (especially as Shuffles do not have a singing teacher at present), both Students put on a fantastic performance with Shannon gaining 2nd place, and Morgan only 1 point of the bronze medal walked away with 4th place.
Well done Everyone a fantastic start!
Day 2
Day 2 was started by Chloe S with a lyrical dance, Chloe has always been a shy student (well on stage anyway), but you would not have believed me had you seen her - Her performace was faultless with stretched arms, a real feel for the music, and the most dazzling smile, this was definately Chloe's best performace to date, and was rewarded with a 1st place. Paige B was next with her own arrangement, as usual Paige pulled a brilliant performance out of the hat and earned herself a gold medal also. the standard had been set high, but Morgan proved she could live up to it with her own arrangement, walking away with a silver medal.
Our youngest competetor this year Danni was next with a modern dance to Beyonce, Danni aged 6 proved the younger Shufflers were every bit as good as the seniors and brought home another gold medal for Shuffles.
Last to dance today was Joanne, Joanne's nerves had got the better of her all day, despite her friends trying to rally round her and her mum and I trying every trick in the book to make her feel better Jo was sick - how was we going to get through this? The wait was excrutiated (and that was just for her mum and me) Jo didn't dance till 6pm in the evening so had been worrying all day long, but it didn't matter Jo stepped out on stage in a gorgeous scottish style tutu and made me proud by executing her ballet dance with elegance and style. Joanne gained herself a bronze medal and a bag full of confidence ready for her modern number on week 4.
Every entrant from Shuffles walked away with a medal today - well done all of you - you have made me one very very proud teacher.
Day 3
A quiet day today with Shuffles taking part in only 2 sections, first up was Chloe J and Crystal with a lyrical duet, this was the first lyrical duet that these girs have performed, and perform they did, the duet earned themselves 5th place.
Next up was Amy F, another fantastic arrangement of flips, kicks and tumbles in her 2nd acro dance of the competition, Amy earned herself a brilliant score of 84 marks and a gold medal.
Well done all 3 of you!
Day 4
Well Day 4 turned out to be as good as the rest. Shuffles were only in 1 section today, modern, It was an early start with it being at 9am, however we all made it there on time and raring to go, (well all except Sian, who looked like she was still asleep) The day started with a nice surprise for the students when Fran turned up to cheer then all on. 4 of shuffles students were set to dance in this section, Morgan was up first and set the standard high with her latino freestyle number to Mambo Italiano, a very differnt Modern number which went down well with the audience, her timing was impecable, and she looked amazing in her pink outfit (curtesy of nanny - what would we do without our nan's?) Jo was up next, and we were all keeping our fingers crossed that the nerves wouldn't get the better of her again as they did for ballet, but no Joanne stepped out this time full of confidence and put on a faultless performance with a more traditional style of modern routine to Glen Millers American Patrol - Jo to looked superb in her american outfit which was really set of by the new sparkly shoes (I'm sure they helped her to stretch her feet!!) :o) We had a long wait before another Shuffles Student took the stage, but that didn't un-nerve Chloe J, another fabulous custume of 60's swirls and another dazzling performance, to the Jackson's can you feel it, as one of the shiest members of Shuffles Chloe proved she also has got what it takes. Next up a student from another school got half way through her dance but sadly faultered and forgot her steps and ran off stage, but this didn't phase our next performer, Chloe S Stepped out for her funky street dance routing, another brilliant performance from chloe - she really has found her confidence.
The wait then was agonising as 14 competetors lined up on stage to recieve their results. As the adjudicator stood up to announce the winners I think we all held our breathe, but there was no need, Joanne's name was announced as the silver medal winner (I don't think there will be any nerves at next years competitions for her.), then Morgan was announced as the bronze medal winner, with only 1 point in it. Chloe J and Chloe S both walked away with honors awards - we really couldn't have asked for more.
Well done everyone, I'm so proud of you all.
But for me, it's off to Manchester now with Danni B - check out how she got on in the UK finals on the festival 4 stars page....
